Each month, Jack receives a lot of questions. Now, he will provide the answer to the most-commonly-asked question, each month, on this page. Submit your question.
Are you hiring or taking application for internships and jobs for this Summer? Absolutely! You can submit your information on our contact page. Just make sure you select the appropriate subject and you can upload your resume as well.
What's on your summer reading list? Just finished The Boys in the Boat, an intriguing story about the rowing team from Seattle who competed in the 1930's Olympics during the Nazi regime.
Now, I'm reading All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
Do you still offer catering services? Jack's is offering catering once again, on Saturday and Sunday only.
What are you hoping for in 2015? That my cars start, my kids have babies and bogey golf.
What are some of your favorite holiday memories? I've always enjoyed participating in the Christmas Parade.
I hope to be in the parade this year, with the classic retro Buick Roadmaster sporting a 14-foot glowing rocket.
Merry Cosmic Christmas!
Other than hot dogs, what is your favorite food or dish to top with Jack's Sweet Potato Mustard? If you are at a tailgate or really anywhere having crackers and cheese, it's time to break out the Jack's Sweet Potato Mustard.
Also, if you are putting together a Thanksgiving leftover sandwich, Jack's Sweet Potato Mustard is a game changer.
What football team do you root for? I guess I root for USC, as that is where my former coach, Lou Holtz, coached last.
Of course W & M, as my fraternity brother and quarterback from when I played, Jimmie Laycock, has been the head coach there as long as Joe Riley been mayor of Charleston!
Other coaches I played for at W & M, Marv Levy, Bobby Ross, Bo Rien, Chuck Clausen, Larry Becktal and Larry Peccatiello - all went on to pro ball careers .
One dear friend I played ball with Russ Brown, played a few years in the pros as a punter - just passed away this past August .
I see all my fellow ball players at homecoming and I am about to play bocce on the beach with a few right now!!
Why did you switch the West Ashley restaurant to Mex 1? We loved the space in West Ashley, and it did as well as the Mt. Pleasant restaurant, but there were a few other factors involved. Primarily, the rent and debt was considerably higher. So, we had to convert to a neighborhood bar - we just serve the other American hand-held food - the taco!
With so many people stopping by Jack's during their summer vacation, do you get time to enjoy the summer? I spent a week with my wife Priscilla and friends Jon Ross and Mary Young at Wildquest, the Dolphin-Human connection in Bimini (view photos). We swam everyday with wild dolphins off a 41 ft catamaran. Living on Isle of Palms, I (unfortunately) take the ocean for granted. After this experience, I am in awe of this planet, this ocean!!! www.wildquest.com - check it out!
Celebrated the wedding of dear William & Mary friends, Charlie & Carol Jackson's daughter Sarah outside of Charlottesville, Va. Beautiful horse country, rolling hills and great companionship.
Franchising A Jack's It is a great model once the franchise machine is in operation. It is my experience that you need to prove the model with 4 or 5 stores. I just have ONE! We are exploring an expansion alternative with licensing. This would allow licensees to operate with much less costs than a typical franchise.
When we move over to the franchise model, I would allow the beginning licensees to become franchisees without any additional costs.
If anyone has interest in a license, contact me and I will explain further.
Of course, if anyone wants to come in on the bottom floor and finance the franchise start up, the Big Dog is all ears!
